A to Z Mondays ~ The Letter K

K is for Kayak. In the summers, as a teenager, I got to be a gate judge at the annual Whitewater Races at World's End State Park on the Loyalsock Creek. I don't think they even have these races anymore, but they were something that we always looked forward to back then. My buddy Sue and I would love to work the races, then get to meet kayakers from all over. Since moving to our place up in farrr N.Idaho where there are a zillion waterways, I've been rebitten with the kayak bug. Maybe I'll take lessons this summer! I hope I'm not too old or to out of shape to do it. Doesn't this look like fun?

Now for more A to Z bloggers, go visit Jen. She has them listed on her sidebar.

Neat Cassie. I like to watch the kayakers in the Little River in the Smokies when the water is high and moves quickly.

When the Olympics were in Atlanta, the kayak races were held here in TN --southeast of us. NOW--that area is filled with bus-loads of people who float or kayak down those rapids...

Hugs,
Betsy

Hi Cassie!

I'm sorry! I just posted my A-Z.....I forgot to click "publish". Go figure.

I love Kayaking!!! We kayak in the cove here and the leopard sharks nibble on our finger tips. They don't have real teeth, so it feels like they're gumming on our hands. Too cute. :-)

I love Rocket!!! I love dogs in general. :-)

I have wanted to learn how to do this...it looks pretty easy so I will say you are not too old to do it if I am not too old to learn it. :)

looks fun! I think I'd like the calm waters more than the rapids!

Happy K day!
You are more the outdoorsy type so I think you would have no problem with this. I tipped a canoe once and thought I was going to drown. ha.

you should totally do it!!!!

Good one! I've been toying with the idea of getting a kayak - mainly for the calm waters of our reservoir lakes. seems like a good way to stalk nature quietly, too.

That sounds great, Cassie! IMHO, anything involving going out on the water is great. Gate judge? I am impressed! Did you see any of the Olympic kayaking last summer? Flat water, as opposed to white water, of course, but those competition kayaks are nearly as fast as rowing shells. They really fascinate me! One more thing to try at some point. ;-)

I love the letter K (it after all, is the first letter of my hubbys name).

I am so terrified of water..I'm afraid I miss out on the water sports!

P.S. You let me know the next time you come through Ogden. I live in Clearfied..about 20 minutes south of Ogden. Anytime..I would love to meet for lunch or dinner, if you are interested.

As a diehard kayak fan - I definitely advise you to get one! You'll love it! There are so many different types to choose from - get one that's right for you. Mine is very stable - I'll have to check the model I have.

I love to watch kayaking, but don't think I could ever do it well. I have a horrible sense of balance. I need to be able to move around more.

Definitely take pics if you start again this summer. :)

Betsy & John ~ I missed the Olympics.I don't get excited by televised sports.I like the real roar of the crowd!
LUV ~ I'll take this as your endorsement of kayaking.Shark nibbles...yikes...gummed by a tiger shark. Visited your K post. Very good.
Suz ~ Let's see who goes kayaking first this summer.Keep me posted.I canoe canoe?

Margaret & Jen ~ I will definately be flatwater kayaking.Lake Pend Oreille sometimes get waves on it like the ocean though,so I'll probably either do it in a cove or on a much smaller lake.
Michele ~ Good, I need a cheer leader! he he.
Ben ~ I've canoed on a lake called Mirror Lake(smoooooth)a few summers ago. Got some nice wildlife pics but didn't catch a single fish. A kayak doesn't have room for all my goodies like a boat or canoe though.

John ~ I wasn't that impressive! They'd give us a crash coarse on how to an hour before the races started.I've always been a waterbaby. Was an advanced SCUBA diver and just loved that. It's been many years now since I've done that though. I still love the water, but in less active ways!

Danielle ~ I wish you would take some swimming lessons to cure you of your water fear.Your little guys will pick up on your fear and claim it as their own otherwise.
Ogden. Right. Will definately contact you if that's our overnight stop. And thx. for the nice words.:)

Dawn ~ You'll have to take lessons with Suz!
Shelley ~ I'll await your info. I remember that you wrote about a kayak. You are so lucky to have your water right there.
Rosemarie ~ Now that you mention it, I wonder if my balance is okay. I've become quite clumsy with age. hmmmm.

I have never been kayaking but it does look fun. I'm not a strong swimmer though, so I'd be a little hesitant in very deep water. Fun "K" post. :)
