Some People Are Like Slinkies...

Posted by PicasaHe he he. Love this poster.

Slinkies always remind me of a really old, really funny Saturday Night Live skit with Gilda Radnor and Bill Murray where Lisa talked about her father, Mr. Loopner. She explained how he had no spine so was curled up like a slinky in a dog bed. She said he was the inventor of the slinky. he he. The image has never left my warped mind. I love slinkies and even purchased one a few years ago at Restoration Hardware. Unfortunately the stairs (for all levels) at our cabin are too deep, so the slinky can only take one step, then stops. Phooey!

A to Z Mondays ~ The Letter L

Okay, so I cheated. I thought of Love, but knew it might already be posted there on A to Z Mondays by another, quicker blogger. Then Log cabin 'cuz we have one. Then Luddite, which is a great word, but I didn't want to get "into it". Leapin' Lizzards. no. Finally, I decided [since the old brain was obviously in a fog] to consult my friend, the handy, dandy WikiAnswers.com. Here's the way it went:

Cassie's QQ:

What are words with the letter L?

Wiki's Answer:

Look, lets leave all the letters out of this and learn the lesson of this lazy question. So many words collected in the lexicon contain the letter L. Words like lap and louse and levee all start with the letter L, but there are words filled with the letter L, like filled and filling and apple pie filling and calling and falling and bellowing or mellowing but for me the coolest words with letter L are the words that end with L, like pal, or gal. I really like words like banal and idol and seal but the coolest of all are words that end in the double L. After all, alls well that ends well.

And with that, my friends, I am now Leaving you! Oh yeah, for more A to Z Mondays go on over to Lovely Jen's blog.

Love, yes love, and blessings, Lazy Lassie Cassie

Porkopolis

Where in the world is Porkopolis? No, it's not in a comic book; it's actually in Ohio. Cincinnati was once called Porkopolis for being the first and biggest pork producer. ~ taken from Trader Joe's Culinary Compendium Vol.#2, 2009

Easy Way To Peel A Potato!

This is the coolest video on how to peel a potato. I am definately going to do it this way from now on. Now I can hardly wait for the next potluck so I can make potato salad. Thanks to my cousin Sheila for sending this to me. love ya, Cassie

A to Z Mondays ~ The Letter K

K is for Kayak. In the summers, as a teenager, I got to be a gate judge at the annual Whitewater Races at World's End State Park on the Loyalsock Creek. I don't think they even have these races anymore, but they were something that we always looked forward to back then. My buddy Sue and I would love to work the races, then get to meet kayakers from all over. Since moving to our place up in farrr N.Idaho where there are a zillion waterways, I've been rebitten with the kayak bug. Maybe I'll take lessons this summer! I hope I'm not too old or to out of shape to do it. Doesn't this look like fun?

March 21st - A Busy Day

Diane T.,my first cousin once removed, & moi!
At the ASU track. Diane is the one in the black 2-piece. This is Diane practicing the day before her meet. After we went out to lunch we stopped by the condo.
Diane met Baby last year, but this was her first encounter with Mr. Hootie!
My cousin Mary's daughter, Diane, runs track for Manhattan College and her team was at ASU for an invitational track meet. The track pics are ones I took last year. The regular photos are from this visit on Saturday. It really tickles me that Diane takes the time out of her schedule to call this old gal so we can get together when she is out here. This year Patrick also got to go out to eat with us and it was a nice visit. We didn't make it over to her meet in the evening, as we were both exhausted. We had taken Hootie and Baby to a Dale meet up earlier in the morning. It was a busy day. Hope your weekend was as eventful as ours! God bless all who pass this way!

Here's A Guessing Game For You

  1. 14 ounces of 50% less salt cashews.
  2. A half of a heart shaped rock.
  3. A quarter pound of butter.
What do these things all have in common?

  1. In BabyRD & Hootie's stomach Saturday.
  2. In Hootie's stomach Sunday.
  3. In BabyRd's stomach Monday.

Yes, the charming little ruffians in the video are conducting secret taste tests while Patrick & I are out of the house or otherwise not occupied with them. Surprisingly neither of them have had the dreaded trots (yet) since polishing off the above mentioned items. Baby just got over diarrhea from eating Hootie's puppy chow. Vet says she has a sensitive GI tract. Hmmm. Shouldn't she limit her butter intake? She is such a poacher and is a notorious counter surfer. Hootie just jumps up on the bed and goes through whatever is on our night stands. Ah, the life of a dog.

Hope your week is off to a good start. Blessings on your heads to all who pass this way. love, Cassie

More About Me...

This is Hootie and me at his last puppy class before he graduated. There are pics of him with the mortar board on in the dogs blog, HERE. If you look closely in this picture you can see the remains of the shiner I gave myself last Saturday. The orb of my left eye still hurts when I open & close it. Oh brother.

New subject. While reading Dawn's blog (I get ideas from her!) I was inspired to tell you about what a goofy little kid I was. For one thing, though I had an older sister, Harley, I always played by myself. (She didn't like me.) I was kind of an odd child, as I liked to sit behind or under furniture to play. I also spoke in rhyme. This was around 1953 I guess, my folks got brand new living room furniture. Thick upholstery with satin tassels surrounding the bottom on each chair and the sofa. Well, apparently I wasn't being watched very closely, because I got hold of my mother's sewing scissors and cut the tassels off of one of the chairs. Luckily, as I said, I hid behind the chair, so I only cut off the back tassels. I don't remember getting a spanking for this but do remember the chair being moved to a corner position. Around that same time I also cut one side of my very long hair to within 3 inches of the roots...Mommy had to cut the other side to even it off and in the pictures from that time I looked like George Washington! I was around 3 years old, but still remember crying and feeling embarrassed as Mom cut the other side off. I guess I was way before my time, cause I've seen the avant-garde lop sided hairstyles in fashion mags now a days. he he. No pictures for this story. They're in a book back in PA.

Now wasn't that fascinating? ha! Blessings to all my friends who read this today. Have a good weekend.

love,Cassie

A to Z Mondays ~ The Letters H & I

Playing catch up since I missed last weeks A to Z. My letter "H" could of course be none other than: My Letter "I" is Independence. The condition of being politically free: autonomy, freedom, independency, liberty, self-government, sovereignty. I think of Independence as being represented by our U.S. flag:

If you click on this word flag you can learn lots of interesting facts about one of the United States most honored symbols of Independence.

*Life---You can’t make this crap up.

Baby Rocket Dog our sweet Airedale terrier. She's feeling pretty good here.
Thursday Patrick had to have a molar pulled. A root canal had already been done on the tooth and the root got a crack in it. Our wonderful dentist, Dr. Bafaloukos, took him in immediately. He had a rough time getting the tooth to come out (our old teeth are ornery) so Pat was feeling some pain after the Novocain wore off. He still was hurting on Friday so took some pain meds prescribed. I made him stop the pills at noon, because we had signed up for a “Love & Respect” marriage conference for Fri-Sat and our Friday class started at 6:45pm. Since I can’t drive at night I didn’t want him to fall asleep at the wheel. He soldiered through by just taking lots of Aleve, but was still in pain. We decided to take the dogs with us & leave them in the car (and check on them at break time) because Baby Rocket Dog had eaten Hooties whole meal the day before & was having stomach upset in the form of diarrhea. Well, when half time came we went out to the car and boy were we in for a treat….Baby had gotten sick all over the back seat. Oh what a stink! Thankfully we had our super ASPCA seat protector on the back seat, and a comfort pillow on the passenger seat, so no damage to the actual seats. Needless to say, we did not return to class for the night. We were wiping up what we could and folding up seat covers while tending to the pups too. What a mess. The drive home was making both of us sick from the fumes. When we got home poor Patrick finally got to take another “real” pain pill and he washed the dog’s in the bathtub while I did a better job on the inside of the car. I parked it outside in the parking lot with the windows down to air out. Do you remember this car? It’s the one that looks like trash now because the back bumper is a mess. My doggie-totin’ Subaru is now a true redneck car! This morning we were planning on going to part 2 of "Love & Respect”, but decided after Friday night that we’d better stay close to home and Baby. She was still a bit sick. Not only that, but Pat was in major pain from his pulled tooth. I took the car seat covers to the Laundromat at 6:30am & got that task finished and got home to a suffering husband. I called Dr. Bafaloukos’s home & told his wife that we suspected that Patrick had a dry socket. Doc was out hiking but his wife,Lynn, said when he got back she’d tell him & she was sure he would want to meet us at his office to pack the socket. That is what happened. At 4:00pm I got to be the chauffeur & in about 5 minutes the hole was packed. In that amount of time, I went back out to the car to sit with the dogs and as I opened the redneck mobile’s door I smacked myself in the left eye. That’s my “good” eye, the one without the protein blob and glaucoma. Yes folks, I gave myself a black eye. Perfect.

One Born Every Minute...

Yup, I am that one. Could I feel more stupid? Probably not. This is the rest of the story from yesterdays trip to Relax The Back. I'm not proud, so I'll tell you my story as a word of caution.
When I got out to the parking lot and began placing my purchase in the back of the station wagon a young, clean cut Hispanic man approached me. He asked if I wanted to fix the chipped paint from my bumper. I said, "What, do you work for a body shop?" He said yes, but he was doing some side jobs to get money to pay the rent. His father was sitting in the (new) SUV while he talked with me. I said my car is almost 15 years old & I really didn't plan on doing anything to it. He said it would only cost me $100 and wouldn't take long to fix. I told him I didn't have any cash on me & he was so sweet to say that was okay, I could go to an ATM. (Shouldn't some sort of red light been flashing in my brain??Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.) Anyway, I called Patrick & asked what he thought and he said the bumper could use some work since some paint was peeling off. Go for it. So, I tell the young man okay, but where would he fix it. He suggested our house & I told him no, it is a condo & they don't allow anyone to work on their cars there. He said, well, I would have to buy him the paint, clear coat and turtle wax to do the job at Auto Zone anyway, so he'd do it in their parking lot. So, off to Auto Zone we go, the shill and his mark. Not only did I buy the 3 supplies he suggested, he asked me to buy him a soda pop too. AND I did! Sheesh, why didn't I buy one for his dad too?
While Casey (that was what his dad told me his name was) sanded and sprayed & acted like he knew what he was doing his dad, a small, balding fellow kept me occupied. He told me how beautiful my dogs were and he laid hands on Baby Rocket Dog (she had smelled the paint fumes) and knew what I will call Christianese...I asked him what church he went to & he vaguely said Pentecostal. I jokingly said, "You're not Mexican Gypsies are you? When it rains the paint will come off my car?" And he said oh no, his son was a good auto body man. He called me sister and told me he and his son, daughter and grandkids all lived in an apartment and the rent was due. He said he had lived in Seattle area and made easy small talk with me. Seemed like a nice enough guy. When Casey finished the bumper was covered in turtle wax and some gray over spray was on the regular paint. I said that looks weird and he said, no it'll be good, but you need to leave the wax on over night. And the over spray will come right off. CLANG. Clang. clang. Shouldn't I have realized this was a swizz? NOoooo, not me. I dutifully drive to the Credit Union to take out the cash to pay this little swindler and his dad. When I got home and looked at the bumper I got a really qweezy feeling in my stomach. Before Casey did his "job" on the bumper it had a few spots where the white paint had chipped off. Really not that bad. This is what it looks like today:

Lovely. I just hope they really needed the money, because my husband works very hard for what he earns and I feel like such a stupid, stupid woman. Patrick said we should be able to get it fixed, but I said I want to leave it looking that way as a reminder to me for being so dumb. The funny thing is, I never would have trusted these people before I was a Christian.

Yup, there is one born every minute. Yesterday around 1pm her name was Cassie.

Relax The Back & Comfort In Seating

Thera Cane
Yesterday morning I went to Relax The Back & purchased a Thera Cane to use for my fibromyalgia. One of the therapists I have gone to suggested it for times I couldn't get in for a massage. I think I'm going to get a lot of use out of it. Especially when I'm up at the cabin & my favorite masseuse,Patrick, is down in Phoenix!
* Our Ekornes chairs look like this, but are a burnt sienna in creamy, soft leather:
Anyway, while I was at Relax The Back I tried out a Human Touch zero gravity chair. Oh my goodness; it was so comfortable! Now, I am a devotee of Ekornes* stressless chairs (Patrick has the Admiral and I have a Commodore) and think they are terrific, but this Human Touch chair takes comfort to a whole other level! It is also aesthetically pleasing, which I can not say for so many over stuffed recliners that many people favor. (No offence to you barcalounger lovers out there!) Now I would like to add the electric zero gravity chair to my log cabin wish list. I'm not saying I want to get it right now, but think it would be a grand addition to our living room up in farrr N.Idaho! I guess I'll see if Pat reads my blog by saying this. I'll let you know if he mentions it to me. There are a ton of other things we need to spend our money on before I get involved in furnishings, but I'm just saying....

Taking a Few Days Off ~ In Memorium

Klaus and Bogart, The End of a Walk on Sunday, October 2008
Dear Friends,

I am going to take a few days off from blogging. A friend of many dogbloggers, Klaus, passed away early this afternoon. He was Bogart's "Daddy" and Lulu's love & husband. He had been very ill in the ICU for over a week and many prayers were offered up for his recovery. There was love coming from all sides, lots of hope and good wishes, but sadly he didn't make it.

In tribute to Klaus and out of respect for Lulu, I'm going to keep quiet for a few days. I hope you come back to see me after a while. Thank you & God bless each person who reads this blog.

love, Cassie

Friday With Cassie & Patrick & Friends

Here I am with C2 & her 9 year old daughter M2. M1 drove them up to Mesa to the Bass Pro Shop from Tucson. And Patrick drove the dogs and me(C1) to the Bass Pro Shop and we all met up. It was so good to see them again. M2 has grown so much. We figured it's been a whole year since we last saw each other. We talk on the phone at least 2-3 times per week, so I didn't realize it was that long since we were last face to face. It was a short visit, but at least we got to connect for a bit. It was also the first time Pat & I had been to a Bass Pro Shop...and WOW!! What a cool place it is. It's similar to Cabella's, but I think even nicer. They had a real stream and a water fall(Betsy!) and of course tons of taxidermy, wild animals. In the Valley of the Sun it was like an oasis in the middle of the desert. Only thing is, they have a restaurant there, so we couldn't bring the dogs inside. The two husbands went inside while we stayed out with the dogs, then Patrick stayed out with them while we all went in. The dogs were just happy to be with us, though I think they would have loved the stuffed animals! After we left Bass we headed toward Gilbert to take the pooches to the Cosmo Dog Park. You can see videos and pics of us at the dog park on the pooches blog. It took us about 45 minutes to get there because the traffic looked like this: Here is an example of the "road work" our hard earned tax $$ pays for: When we arrived back home after the dog park there was a package waiting for me from Our Name Is Mud! There was a "dog hair" mug and bowl and also a blue dog of happiness ring holder. All so fabulous I was blown away! (More photos on the dogs blog:<) Thanks so much Lorrie!! Below is a picture of the hand ring holder I had been using;and just under that is a picture of my brand new blue dog ring holder.
Isn't he cute?? He adds needed color to my earth tone bathroom decor!
Hope you guys are all having a great weekend! May God bless you and keep you. love, Cassie
