A to Z Mondays ~ The Letter G

G is for Godson Ian!! The tall fellow in these pictures is Pat's and my godson, Ian Graham. The top photo is from Jan. 2008 when he was on vacation from Harrow the boy's school in England. He has gone to school there for 4 years now and loves it. One of only a few Americans who attend. He is a real sharp cookie. (And lots of fun too!)
This is Godson Ian with his dad, grandpa and someone I don't know in the red shirt. At 16 he's the tallest one among all the oldsters!! Ian is an expert marksman and was on a national award winning skeet team when he was just 12 years old. Godson Ian is also into rowing and went to a camp in New England last summer for rowing. I was Ian's "nanny" when he was a baby and toddler, so I get great satisfaction in seeing what a fabulous young man he has become. Once I figure out how to scan pictures I'll do a post on Ian as a little fellow. He was an answer to prayers for us when he came into Patrick's and my life. We were so honored to be asked by his folks to become his godparents. One special boy. One special Godson!

What a fantastic honor it is to be a godparent. When I was asked to be a godmother of MayCee I wrote her a letter of "a god mothers wish" it told her who I hoped she would become(while being true to herself) and how lucky she was to have such special people that loved her. I framed it and gave it to her parents at the baptism. To this day (she is now 8 years old) I have a special connection to that child. Now with 2 of my own kids I know how lucky I was to be given a bit of a participation in parenting that others didn't get....hard to explain, but you know what I mean. =)
Thanks for participating in the 100 Blog Club! You are entered to win the blanket and a few of the other prizes I have going on......Good Luck! Drawing is at the end of the week.

Cassie,

When I saw Ian in the photo, my first reaction was: What a great rower he'd make, being so tall. Then, I scroll down, and sure enough: Rowing camp in New England! Send him over to our club anytime, and we'll gladly put him in a good boat! ;-)

Thanks all! Yes,he means a lot to us. I think Ian is around 6'2",but he is still growing!! AND, I am a shorty at 5'1". And John, I'll pass your info on to his parents. They own a place in upstate NY & will be back there in the Spring.

Sure, by all means. My email is in my profile, and our website is http://www.newhavenrowingclub.org/ and blog is http://nhrccatch.blogspot.com/.

We have a very active student population during the summer months when school is out (both H.S. and college), and otherwise about ninety full time adult members, so there's always quite a lot of activity here in the summer!

Hi Cassie!

At long last I have managed time to find your blog and read up!

Wow, your Godson is very handsome and also clever too.

Harrow school is quite the elite school here in the UK too.

I have a girl and two boys, and the eldest boy is 6ft 8ins tall, but skinny! Must be my cooking or something!

Nice to meet you,

Jeannie - from the cooking blog on Marvin's blog
