A to Z Mondays ~ The Letter G

The Letter G.
Garrison…as in Garrison Keillor of A Prairie Home Companion fame. Garrison created A Prairie Home Companion which I try to listen to every weekend. It’s on National Public Radio on Saturday and then repeated again on Sunday evening. The 2 hour show goes by so quickly that I’m always disappointed when it’s over. Garrison’s show has a little bit of everything. All different types of music: country, bluegrass, occasional classical, just about every kind! This week he had an artist on Nellie McKay from Great Britain who was really good. She said Doris Day was her idol…but she actually had a way better voice than Doris.
(If you click on Nellie's picture it'll take you to her website.)
Garrison plays several parts on his show, my favorite being Guy Noir, Private Eye. There is so much tongue in cheek and corny humor, but I sure do enjoy it. I have always loved radio shows like this because they allow a person to stretch the imagination. When I was a young girl there was a radio show called Radio Mystery Theatre that I used to love to listen to. Golly, I’m rambling. Gonna go now. If you get a chance, listen to Garrison’s show sometime. Let me know what you think of it.

Thanks Garrison Keillor for the many hours of listen pleasure you have afforded me!

love, Cassie

I've heard of Garrison Keillor, Cassie.. Don't know where since I don't listen to public radio... But the name is very familiar. I'll have to put on my 'thinking cap'....

Have a great Thanksgiving.
Hugs,
Betsy

When he sticks to music and comedy he can be very entertaining. When he ventures into politics--as he does on occasion--he's unbearable.

Hi Cassie!

What a great choice for the letter 'G'. And yet another proof point that you and I are indeed related, since I love the Prairie man as much as you do.

Okay. Gotta run. Got some powder milk biscuits cooking up I gotta tend to...they're tasty and wholesome mostly!

Cassie, we like Garrison Keillor! He has a weird sense of humor. Jeep has some DVDs of his that we watch sometimes. Happy Thanksgiving! Our company will be here thru Sunday. Catch you later.

Mr. Keillor, in my humble opinion, is one of our current literary treasures. Puts on a great show every week, and he is a very entertaining writer as well.

I've always enjoyed this show. My Dad is a big fan, and he introduced me to it.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I always love to hear Garrison - and agree with you about Guy Noir. But I think my favorite "commercial" is the one about rhubarb pie.

Have a great day and a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I couldn't agree more with Joated about Garrison's politics. Luckily he rarely talks his lib beliefs on his Prairie Home show!! C.

Happy "G" week, Cassie! Unique choice for this one. I've heard much about Garrison, but have never heard his show. I know he is very popular.

So nice to see a post about Garrison Keillor. I used to listen to his radio pieces in the UK. Not sure if he is still on as I don't listen much these days.
